Reimagining the past through illustration

Hannah Dosanjh

Swindon based Artist and Historian

Hannah Dosanjh is a skilled illustrator and artist, also known for her unique collages and wry depictions of humans. Hannah has developed a distinctive style that draws inspiration from local history, creating detailed compositions and “time capsules” that transport viewers to a different era.

Her work often draws upon old photos, (thank you to The Swindon Society for making so many photos by Albert Beaney accessible) and reflects her fascination with the interplay of change and continuity. Her use of poised figures in bold colours ads to the playful and nostalgic feel of her work.

Hannah is passionate about using art, humour and story to bring  history to life. She happily describes herself as a history nerd, as “Stories explain everything”

Our year 5 children had the best time! All in all we really had the most amazing afternoon with Hannah, she was so engaging and the children loved meeting a real life author. The cherry on the cake was the children could purchase a book if the wished to and had their books signed. We will 100% be inviting Hannah again because she was really inspirational to the children.

her educational background engages students through a context-driven explanation and a comedic, quick-witted delivery. Our students really enjoyed her anecdotal style too - being a history and architecture nerd, her love of art, the importance of ‘telling an audience a story’ to engage and excite others. We look forward to working with Hannah again.
